We swim and lie down together. The remarkable discovery forces itself upon me that I do not love her so wildly as I loved her last night. But at least there is no malaise and we lie drowsing in the sun, hands clasped in the other's back, until the boat whistle blows.

Yet love revives as we spin homewards along the coast through the early evening. Joy and sadness come by turns, I know now. Beauty and bravery make you sad, Sharon's beauty and my aunt's bravery, and victory breaks your heart. But life goes on and on we go, spinning along the coast in a violet light, past Howard Johnson's and the motels and the children's carnival. We pull into a bay and have a drink under the stars. It is not a bad thing to settle for the Little Way, not the big search for the big happiness but the sad little happiness of drinks and kisses, a good little car and a warm deep thigh

I am not serious. Oh, by the way, it struck me today that my live journal is not cool at all. And I'm pretty sure that's awesome. There are gonna be tons of posts involving my sister, surfing, my lame friends, my lame self, and very little posts regarding my struggles with deep dark feelings, ex girlfriends and/or new girlfriends. Cool? Great. Let's get started.

Apparently, Cas thinks I have no fun and never smile and am thirty. So I am posting some pictures from Aaron, Marc and I playing "Name That Song". Aaron went to painstaking lengths, spending hours on categories and playlists...

Music:WATCHING: "Thicker Than Water"

alright fine, i'm not really sad, cause it's gonna be pretty tough to break up my good mood today, but....

I'm mad at Mccants, Williams and Felton. Sean May, you're off the hook. Marvin Williams, you really have no excuse and you make me angry.

But not that angry, soon I'll be doing some surfing and that makes me feel better.

Mood: impressed

Okay, so we're in Oahu, outside Keo's Thai Restaurant, and I walk up and the valet guy is holding the keys to our rental, and looking at us in this strange crouching position, really intense, and he says "okay, listen, your car is the white jeep". We say grey. "Grey, white, whatever, same thing." Then he lowers down some more. "It's in the way back, I'm gonna go and get that as fast as I can. I'll be back as soon as possible". And just as I'm about to comment about the unnerving intensity in this lisping man's eyes, he whips around and breaks into a sprint of such velocity I have never layed eyes upon. Literally, as if God had set fire to his feet, he tore down the sidewalk and was gone in an instant, Prefontaine this man was, and poof, vanished. I almost shat myself. Kali and I stumbled all over the sidewalk dying of laughter. About 2 minutes later he pulls up with the rental, pops the doors for us and starts talking Mariners baseball and how their pitching is week, he grew up in Seattle, the sprinting valet did. We were amazed. A slight sweat glistened on his brow and he spoke plainly, not panting, he hands us our keys, takes the tip, and we make like we're doing something, holding out to see him perform the task again for the next person in line, WHICH HE DOES, with a noticeably lesser amount of vigor, but still fraught with determination. This moment was priceless, this moment will make this trip. This man was my hero.

Huge swells, reports said 8-10 ft, large for this time of year. It would crush you. In the 2 hours that we watched, 3 people came out with broken boards and 2 left in ambulances. Amazing.

Oahu at dusk. Amazing night. 80 degrees. Why didn't I go to college here? Do you realize you can surf in Long Island? But what a pain in the ass, and besides, it doesn't look this amazing.

A poor rendition of Honolulu at night,an amazing city at night. Somehow, Kali bamboozled me into sorta liking Jack Johnson and spending my hard earned money to see him. We did. It was enjoyable. But not before visiting the horrible mexican restaurant "Compadres" at which there was perhaps the most amazingly attractive young woman I have ever witnessed. We had high expectations until I asked for an extra small sleeveless "Compadres" tank top and she took me serious. I told her that was ridiculous, then she kinda finally understood that I wasn't serious. That makes me think that this poor girl enjoys it when men wear sleeveless extra small "Compadres" muscle tanks, and that makes her suspect, despite her alluring beauty.

So... I flew many hours across the continent, arriving at midnight in Portland, where Nick and I ran about for some hours, drinking in the Shanghai Tunnel, talking about Jazz, Nick's dislike for Jay Z, travelling. Nick is a genius and a joy to be around. We then went onto Voodoo Donut which keeps the hours of 10pm-10am which outstanding and we celebrated me being on vacation and ate donuts.
